On October 15th, influential rapper Young Thug dropped his long awaited album Punk. Last we heard from Thug was a compilation album from his label Young Stoner Life (Slime Language 2), and it is safe to say that fans are thoroughly satisfied. While it did have a three hour delay due to last minute verses being added, his features did not disappoint.
This 20 track album included features from various artists like J. Cole, Future, Travis Scott, Drake, Doja Cat, and even the late Mac Miller. While some songs such as “Droppin Jewels” and “Hate the Game” weren't necessarily new, songs like ”Bubbly” and “Stressed” proved to be a real hit among Thugger fans. Fans were also able to hear a different side of Thug on various tracks, especially on “Die Slow”, where he raps about his life growing up and watching his mom deal with infidelity issues.
In true Thug fashion, he flowed easily on different beats and included his usual guitar strums, smooth transitions, and clever word play. “Stupid/Asking,” which was produced by Metro Boomin and Charlie Handsome, is a perfect example of this. Pi’erre Bourne and Wheezy are also a couple of producers who contributed to this project.
Overall, many are saying that Young Thug’s sophomore album has zero skips and lived up to its hype. While others are complaining that it was just simply too long. At the end of the day, it is safe to say that this Atlanta rapper continues to put on for his city, and will continue to be a highly respected rapper and influencer.
