The Political Science Association has emerged as an important organization at Clark Atlanta University.
In this current climate, PSA is assisting students with political concerns and the voting process. The PSA was created a few years ago, but re-chartered in fall 2019.
“The organization was created to educate and train people, so that they may be better able to understand and participate in the political process at the local, state and federal levels; and become empowered to seek political and social change in and beyond their communities. It ultimately gives us and others space to discuss politics and political/social issues,” Zariya Jeffers who is the vice president of PSA said.
As an organization, PSA prides on involving African-Americans in politics. “Our goal is to empower students to advocate, serve, vote, protest, mobilize, lead, organize, educate, lobby, demonstrate, engage or whatever a student’s activism looks like,” Jeffers said.
On campus, PSA has hosted watch parties aimed at teaching students about the political process. The organization is active on social media, where they have provided key information on voting, including how to register and deadlines.
Alongside aiding the campus, PSA helps tremendously in the community. They have hosted neighborhood events and encouraged people in the communities to engage in politics.
The current executive board members of PSA are President Christina Williams, Vice President Zariya Jeffers, Secretary Jordan McCorbin, Treasurer Stephanie Brown, CCO Representative Mikayla Brown, Event Planner Grace Foy, Social Media Chair Niyah Thomas, Mister PSA Lawrence Hightower and Miss PSA Jacqueline Azah.
The PSA is open to students in all classifications and majors. All political views and ideologies are welcomed as well. While the fall 2020 membership period closed, those interested can monitor the organization’s Instagram page, @cau.psa, for information regarding the spring membership.
