John Rose, an entertainment and sports attorney from Queens, New York, joined Clark Atlanta’s “dinner and learn” series to talk about his industry opportunities and how he got to where he is today.
“When I was younger, my parents were like you have to be lawyers, doctors, or presidents when you grow up,” Rose said.
Taking his parents' words and putting them into action, Rose attended college at Hampton University and did everything he had to do to continue on the path of becoming a lawyer.
Fueled by many people around him, he was determined to become someone others would aspire to be.
“I want to change the dynamic. I want kids to grow up from my neighborhood and say I want to be a lawyer like John Rose when I grow up,” Rose stated.
After attending an HBCU, law school became a different environment. Rose was willing to take whatever steps he had to take to be where he wanted to be.
“For me, I was coming off going to a historically black college, so it was definitely a different environment, but I always knew I wanted to go into law school so I was prepared and willing and ready to go to a predominantly white university,” Rose said.
He wasn’t so worried about how people looked at him as long as his work and numbers spoke for themselves. Rose received many opportunities to showcase his work and talent through Emory Law School.
He worked as a legal intern for the Atlanta Hawks, Interscope records, and now Fox television.
He described his hard work and success as “a lot of hours, no sleeping and quite frankly being creative.”
Starting from humble beginnings with just a dream and turning them into reality was one of the most important things Rose talked about.
“Protect your energy, the law of attraction, speak what you want into existence. I live every day telling myself I’m a million-dollar lawyer. Speak it into existence, keep your energy high, and don’t give up,” Rose said.
