Ten percent of students attending Clark Atlanta University have made their first return to campus since the COVID-19 evacuation of last Spring semester.
Last December, Clark Atlanta University sent an email to students explaining the transition to campus during COVID-19. Ten percent of students were chosen to return to campus in the categories of classification, athletic affiliation, and student leadership.
Clark Atlanta University is following social distance guidelines and regulation rules from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus. Students are instructed to undergo a COVID-19 test on campus twice a week. Students are required to submit their negative results documentation to the health center. The on-campus student testing is free.
“I made an obligation to students and their parents that I will keep them safe,” Dean Omar Torres said.
“Students who reside in campus traditional residence halls do not share a roommate to maintain social distance regulations,” Elina Cummings, a residence hall assistant, said. The campus dining hall, Crogman Campus Eatery, sectioned off portions of the dining hall to ensure that students maintain a six feet distance from each other while eating throughout the day. “Clark Atlanta University’s Campus Activities Board has not hosted any in-person events. All events will remain virtual until further notice,” Jolisa Lowe said.
Students explain that the transition to return to campus has been a unique experience.
“I did not picture my senior year of college to wind up like this. However, I am excited to be blessed with the opportunity to return to campus nonetheless,” Stephanie Johnson, a senior at Clark Atlanta University, said.
