CCO Spotlight: Transfer Student Association

By Derrian Carter

Every school year, CAU holds new student orientation for new students to get acclimated to college life. However, for transfer students, it takes time to build new relationships and connections coming to a new institution. To alleviate these concerns, the Transfer Student Association was born.

Recharted this school year, the Transfer Student Association’s mission is to aid in the transition and connections of past, current and future CAU transfer students through resources, programs and social events.

“We want to give them that social environment to join other clubs and to develop a school identity on the campus,” said Tiara Luke, the president of the Transfer Student Association.

She aims to have more members for the re-established organization, to ensure transfer students feel included on campus and to create a social environment for transfer students to meet and connect with other transfer students.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, her and her executive board members has many programming events planned this semester, such as highlighting transfer students on social media on Tuesday’s and reaching out to transfer students to join and connect with the organization.

Her executive board members include Breanna Poindexter (Vice President), Christina Jenkins (Secretary), Layla Louis (Treasurer), Bianca Hooks (CCO Representative) and Nani Tre’jour (Student Relations Chair).

When Luke has graduated from CAU, she hopes the Transfer Student Association will become as big as the Student Government Association with high membership and continue to be thriving.

“I don’t want it to end. I want it to keep going and see it pushing through at Clark Atlanta,” she said.
