As students are reentering the campus of Clark Atlanta University, after more than a year of being virtual, they are finding ways to connect with mutuals and embrace their hometowns.Recently, students from Texas have found a way to reconnect with each other and make a name for themselves on campus. The Texas Club is an organization designed to bring together all students throughout the state of Texas, while making a positive and lasting impact on campus.
“During my freshmen [ 2018-2019] year, the Texas Club was based throughout the Atlanta University Center and the presence was not very strong at CAU. My goal was to bring the club to CAU specifically and continue to make a positive presence on campus, while bringing together all students from the state of Texas,” President Gabriel Hargrove said.
Since their rebranding, the Texas Club has made a point to be active in their school
community and neighboring communities. In the future, the organization plans to hold many interactive events and fundraisers. “Texas Heat”, one fundraiser will give students the opportunities to taste famous foods from Texas. “As the biggest state in the south, we will love to show other students how things are done in Texas, while giving them a friendly taste of the state’s culture,” Hargrove said.
Along with the fundraiser, the organization is planning food and clothing drives for the
upcoming season. Recently, Hurricane Ida struck damage in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. While none of the organization’s family or friends were directly affected, they are all too familiar with the trauma natural disasters cause. As an organization, they are working to donate items and financial funding to those who were affected by the storm.
“With all of us [the executive board] being graduating seniors, our main goal is to do all
we can to bring awareness to the club and keep the campus presence high. We want the club to be just as strong as it is now, once we leave,” Hargrove said.
The Texas Club is open to all classifications, majors and natives of Texas. The
organization encourages connecting with them through their events and social media.
The 2021- 2022 executive board is as follows; Gabriel Hargrove (President), Tierney Dean (Vice President), Victoria Grase (Treasurer), Kyra Roussel (Secretary), Arianna Johnson
(Marketing/Social Media Chair), Francheska Johnson (CCO Representative) and Chasatey Virgil (Events Committee Chair). For more information on the CAU Texas Club, follow them @auctxclub on Instagram.
